Australian identical twins, Gayle and Gillian Blakeney were born in Brisbane on 9th July 1966. Gayle is the older sister by 9 minutes. From a young age the girls showed an interest in performing and entertainment. At the age of 9 they reached the finals in a talent show and then went on to appear in TV commercials including a series of commercials for Kellogg’s cornflakes. In the 1979 they appeared in several video clips for the Australian band ‘The Monitors’ then finally made it on to mainstream TV as reporters for the popular children’s show Wombat. In 1990, they joined the cast of Neighbours; Gillian played Caroline Alessi and Gayle played Christina Alessi. In 1991 the sisters went to the UK to try their luck in the music industry. They signed up with Stock Aiken Waterman who had launched Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan, both former Neighbours stars. They called themselves ‘The Twins’ and their single ‘All mixed up’ reached #77 in the UK and #74 in Australia. They parted ways with Stock Aiken Waterman and returned home to once again briefly appear in Neighbours and left the show for good in 1992. In 1993-94 they again tried to break into the UK music charts and released 2 singles under the name of ‘Gayle and Gillian’. The singles ‘Mad if you don’t’ and a cover version of Prince’s song ‘I want to be your lover’ didn’t perform as well on the charts as was hoped. In 1994 they headed to the US to pursue work. They have had some success with guest appearances on a few shows. Last reports on the sisters indicate that they still are living in the US.
