It is estimated that more than 50% of twins, 90% of triplets and virtually all quadruplets and higher order multiples are born preterm, or before the 37th week of pregnancy. The earlier the birth, the greater the risk of complications for the babies. These organisations offer much needed support to families with premature babies.
National Premmie Foundation
Approximately 40,000 babies are admitted to
Special and Intensive Care Nurseries each year in Australia for a variety of reasons.
Approximately 21,000 of these babies are born prematurely.
Around 6,000 babies require critical and intensive life support each year.
All of these babies and their families need support and a voice. The National Premmie Foundation brings together the many smaller, independant organisations in Australia who are supporting families at a local level.
