Sizing

Garments sold by Think Twins follow these general sizing guidelines:

Please note that there is not a standardised sizing system for baby clothing and that this is a rough guide only. As with adult fashion, different designers cut their garments differently and there will be variations in sizing between brands.

However we would like to offer the following suggestions in terms of sizing and hope this helps to guide you in making appropriate selections.

  1. Think Twins items run according to the above guidelines in terms of cut
  2. Dr Seuss items run much larger in cut (for example, a 3mth sized garment would be suitable for a 3-6 month old)
  3. Twinkle-Kids and Bonds run slightly smaller in cut

What does the 'T' mean in a clothing size?
One question that comes up from time to time is regarding the difference between a 24mths size and a 2T. Our research came up with a couple of explanations. The first is that manufacturers produce garments in both sizes is because a 24month shirt is wider in the waist to accommodate children still in nappies, where as the 2T size is designed to suit toddlers who are toilet trained. Another explanation, is that even though they're often in the same area, baby clothing lines change over at size two: there are the "baby" sizes of 3m, 6m, 12m, 18m, 24m, and there are the "toddler" sizes of 2T, 3T, 4T, and 5T. In this case, the difference between 24m and 2T is so much a SIZING issue as a MANUFACTURING issue: some companies make totally different clothes in their infant sizes than in their toddler sizes (others make the same clothes in both sizes, but keep to the 24m/2T for stores that separate the baby sizes from the toddler sizes).

You will note that we stock a lot of clothing which starts at size 6-12 months/size 0. This is because we have found it to be a good size for giving gifts to new babies - it gives them something to grow into and no matter what the size of the babies at birth they will be able to wear and enjoy a size 6-12 months/size 0 garment at some stage in their infancy. If you are visiting the newborn twins in hospital then 000/0-3 months is also a good size so they can start wearing the garments in the first few weeks at home.

When choosing a size, don’t forget to estimate the season of the garment.  For example, if you are buying a Christmas present for twins born in February that year, you will probably need a size 1 in short-sleeved shirts for the Australian summer.

Twins often arrive early and are a little smaller at birth than a single baby, but this is not always the case so check with the parents or use the birth weight as a guide when deciding what size to buy.
