Society is fascinated by twins – and so are we (obviously!). Here’s some information on some of our favourite twins with links to fame. We hope you enjoy reading them as much as we enjoyed researching them!

Benji and Joel Madden - Good Charlotte (USA, Music - Alternative) 

Identical twins Benjamin and Joel Combs changed their surname to Madden in their teens, and formed the band Good Charlotte in 1996; Joel is the lead singer and Benji the lead guitar. Benji is the elder of the 2 being born 5 minutes before Joel.

Lisa and Jess Origliasso - The Veronicas (Australian, Music - Pop) 

Now based in LA, these identical twins were born on Christmas day, 1984 and grew up in Brisbane. When the girls turned 18, Lisa was given a guitar and the girls started song-writing and singing, skills that then launched them into international stardom.

Alanis and Wade Morissette (Canadian, Music - Pop and Musician) 

Born in Canada, Alanis and Wade Morrisette are both successful musicians in their own right, with Alanis’s success reaching international heights. Her record-breaking album Jagged Little Pill has sold 30 million copies worldwide.

Gayle and Gillian Blakeney - The Twins (Australian, Music - Pop/Actors)

Identical twin sisters Gayle and Gillian were the hottest talent around in the early 1990s, starring in Neighbours before trying their luck in the UK and signing with Stock Aiken Waterman who had launched Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan.

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen (USA, Actors)

Mary-Kate and Ashley have built an empire worth around $125 million through their acting and fashion labels and Forbes recently listed them as the 11th-richest women in entertainment. The sisters are reportedly fraternal twins through they look remarkably alike.

Nicholle and David Tom (USA, Actors)

Fraternal twins Nicolle and David are renown actors in the US, Nicholle being better known due to roles in the hit shows Beverley Hills 90210 and The Nanny, whilst David starred on the Young and the Restless and received two Emmy nominations in 2000 and 2001.

Angelina Jolie has established herself as one of the best-known and highest-paid actresses in Hollywood, and has promoted humanitarian causes through the world as a Goodwill Ambassador for the UN Refugee Agency. Brad Pitt is an actor and film producer and became famous in the mid-1990s. Since then he has constantly been voted 'sexiest man alive', and increasingly involved in social issues both in the US and overseas. Together, they make a great team, and adoring parents of twins Knox and Vivienne, born in July 2008. 

Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony (USA, Actress/Singer/Songwriter/Producer/Fashion Designer and Singer)

Jennifer Lopez is the richest person of Latin American descent in Hollywood according to Forbes, and the most influential Hispanic entertainer in America. She has had high-profile relationships with Ojani Noa, Cris Judd, Sean Combs, Ben Affleck, and is now married to Marc Anthony. Her first children, a twin boy and girl, were born on February 22, 2008.

Charlie Sheen and Brooke Mueller (USA, Actor and and Real Estate Investor)

Actor Charlie Sheen tried to swap his bad boy image for that of a family man, having recently welcomed twin boys with wife Brooke Mueller. Max and Bob are the couple's first children, though Charlie has three children from previous relationships. But in 2010, Charlie ended up back in rehab 2 mths after his well publicised argument with Brooke.

Lisa Marie Presley and Michael Lockwood (USA, Singer/Songrwiter and Guitaris/Music Producer)

Lisa Marie Presley is a singer-songrwiter, the only child of singer Elvis Presley and his ex-wife, Priscilla Presley (Elvis was also a twin, but his twin was stillborn). Michael Lockwood is a guitarist and music producer who has worked with Aimee Man, Carly Simon and a number of other high profile performers. 

Dennis and Kimberley Quaid (USA, Actor and Real Estate Agent)

Dennis and Kimberley Quaid are the biological parents of boy/girl twins, Boone and Zoe, though they had a surrogate mother. Dennis is a well known actor, and Kimberly, a real estate agent in California.

Rebecca Romijn and Jerry O'Connell (USA, Model/Actor and Actor)

Rebecca Romijn is best known for her swimsuit photoshoots for Sports Illustrated and Victoria's Secret, as well as her roles as Mystique in the X-Men movies and Alexis Meade on the television program Ugly Betty. Jerry O'Connell is an actor, best known for his roles in Stand by Me and Crossing Jordan, Jerry Maguire and Kangaroo Jack.

Jane Fleming and Ian Purchas (Australia, Athlete and Businessman)

Jane Fleming is a well known former Australian track and field Athlete.  A two time Olympian, Fleming has also competed at the 1986, 1990 and 1994 Commonwealth Games.  Husband Ian Purchas is an insolvency expert at RMG Partners in Sydney.

Clare Bowditch and Marty Brown (Australia, Singer/Songwriter and Drummer)

Clare Bowditch came to prominence in 2005 with the release of her second album What Was Left, which received excellent critical reviews. Heavily pregnant with twins, Clare won the Best Female Artist award at the 2006 ARIAs. Husband Marty Brown is the drummer from the band Art of Fighting.

Chris Reason and Kathryn Robinson (Australia, Channel 7 Journalist and Ten Network Journalist) 

Chris Reason is a reporter for Channel 7, and Kathryn Robinson is a journalist with Australia's Ten Network. She is best known as presenting financial news on Ten's breakfast news.

Sean Combs - P.Diddy (USA, Hip Hop)

A self made millionaire, hip hop star Sean Combs is a Grammy winning recording artist, record producer, part time actor restaurant owner and he also has a clothing line. He and partner Kim Porter had identical twin girls in December 2006.

Patrick Dempsey - Grey's Anatomy (USA, Actor)

Patrick Dempsey who shot to fame through his role in the TV series Grey’s Anatomy, and wife Jillian, a well renowned make up artist, welcomed twin boys in February 2007. Named Sullivan and Darby, the twins have an older sister Talula.

Marcia Cross - Desperate Housewives (USA, TV Actress)

Best known for her characters on Melrose Place and more recently Desperate Housewives, Marcia Cross and husband Tom tried IVF a week after their honeymoon and it worked. At 44, Marcia delivered twin girls Savannah and Eden.

Julia Roberts (USA, Hollywood Actress)

Arguably one of the most famous parents of twins, Julia Roberts conceived through IVF and her boy/girl twins Hazel and Pinnaeus arrived at 36 wks, after Julia was confined to bed rest for 6 wks prior to the birth. They now have a little brother, Henry.

Lance Armstrong (USA, Sport-Cycling )

One of the world’s most remarkable athletes, Lance Armstrong had three children with wife Kristin; a son Luke in 1999 and twin girls Isabelle and Grace, in November 2001. Divorced years later, Armstrong was briefly engaged to singer Sheryl Crow in 2006.

Dominic Purcell (USA, TV Actor)

Dominic is best known for his role in the US TV series Prison Break, though he grew up in Australia and trained with Hugh Jackman before moving to the US in 2000. He and wife Rebecca have 4 children, including twins Augustus and Lily Rose born in 2003.

Dixie Chicks (USA, Country Singers)

The biggest-selling female group in history, the Dixie Chicks still have time for their families. Founding band members and sisters Emily Robinson and Martie Maguire have a set of twins each, both fraternal.

Mark and Scott Kelly (USA, Astronauts) 

Mark and Scott are identical twin brothers who have both been into space. Born in 1964 in Orange New Jersey the brothers were very competitive as children and their parents kept their birth order a secret until they were 16.

Darryl and Shane Wakelin (Australian, Sport - AFL) 

Darryl and Shane are identical twin brothers who have been successful AFL footballers, playing for Port Adelaide and Collingwood respectively. The brothers do not share a birthday, as Darryl was born on 11th August and Shane was born minutes later on 12th August 1974.

Steve and Mark Waugh (AUS, Sport - Cricket)

Steve and Mark are Australian fraternal twin brothers, who have both reached great heights in Australian and International cricket and have achieved awards and accolades on and off the field. Steve is the elder by a couple of minutes.

Reginald and Ronald Kray (UK, Criminals)

Identical twin brothers Reggie and Ronald are perhaps the most notorious twins, having lead a sinister criminal life in the UK, and served lengthy jail sentences for murder. Older brother Charlie also served 10 years in jail for accessory to murder.

B1 and B2 (Bananas in Pyjamas) 

Bananas in Pyjamas is a delightful Australian pre-school TV series produced by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, featuring identical twin brothers, B1 and B2. Created in 1992, ‘Bananas’ is now shown worldwide and dubbed into many foreign languages.

Phil and Lil (Rugrats) 

Phil and Lil are cartoon twins, famous through the Nickelodeon shows Rugrats and All Grown Up.  In their Rugrats days, they were dressed to match; both wore pink and black-striped shirts and matching overalls, and had a small amount of brown hair.

Sherri and Terri (The Simpsons) 

Sherri and Terri are identical twin girls who share the same class with Bart at the Springfield Elementary School, and are recognised by their long purple hair. Sherri was born first; and they share their birthday with Rod Flanders.

Fred and George Weasley (Harry Potter) 

Fred and George Weasley are the famous older brothers of Ron and Ginny, who are both members of Harry Potter’s close group of friends. The twins revel in practical jokes and pranks and are generally considered amusing by both the books' characters and readers.
